I’m passionate about excellence in writing and communicating. Writing well is about far more than proper grammar and spelling, though I am blessed/cursed with noticing every error in a book, email, or social media post. Good writing often violates the rules of good grammar for the sake of stylistic writing, but understands when it’s most appropriate. Believe it or not, there is a direct correlation to the quality of your communication and the degree of success of a project, campaign, book, or simple communication piece. Details matter.

Good writing has a point, a goal to achieve. Are you wanting to sell something – an idea, a product, or a next step? Do you need to communicate a last minute detail to a large audience? Write a book? Whatever the goal, a passion towards the desired outcome informs every line. You can’t make an audience care unless you care (deeply!) and this has to translate in your writing.

Even if you are not a good writer, you are likely able to decipher quality writing from a less than impressive piece. Why? Because in powerful writing, everything is exactly where it belongs. Each word carries weight and pushes you onward to the next sentence or thought. Transitions into new topics or paragraphs are seamless, and the style and tone remain constant throughout. It all matters, and I pay attention to every detail.

A good writer knows his or her audience intimately; the language they understand, the beliefs they share, and the knowledge or power they hold. And when writing for someone else, I find it’s just as imperative to represent the writer authentically, studying not only their writing style, but their speaking style. Passionate about the local church, I spent over six years perfecting the ‘voice’ of the Senior Pastor, crafting communication pieces for any and every occasion and editing weekly sermons. I am passionate about crafting communications that represent clients authentically and accurately.
